Dear Chicago,

It is with great sadness that Chicago Paddle Company has sent out its last paddler and has closed its doors for the final time. We have had six wonderful years at Kathy Osterman ‘Hollywood’ beach and one ‘interesting’ experience at Oak Street/Ohio Street beach. We would like to firstly thank all our patrons and those who have supported us over the past six years. It has been our pleasure to serve the community and provide a fun experience and something that we at Chicago Paddle Company were passionate about.

Over the past 12 months we have made attempts to expand the business and open a second location. After being awarded a second location and making significant capital investment, we were subsequently informed that the Chicago Park District did not have the authority to issue a licence for this new location. Rather than make good on their error, we have been subject to closure, relocation, fictitious information and broken promises. Notwithstanding the financial implications of this, our hearts, passion and resolve have all been eroded and as a result we have elected to close our doors for the last time.

As a small female-owned business, we have learnt the hard way that unfortunately, the little guy often can’t win. While it is too late for our business, we hope the new administration under Lori Lightfoot will address the necessary changes needed to help small business thrive in our city.

Paddle boarding was not just a business, but also a passion. We have made many friends and hope to see you on the water in 2019.
